Halifax West High School

Lockdown this morning at Halifax West - October 5th

Dear Families of Halifax West High School,

Prior to the start of our day, we received information from a student concerned about a potential threat to the school. We immediately called 911. All students and staff on site were safe.

As a precaution, the school implemented a Lockdown and then moved to a Hold and Secure for approximately 30 minutes. While the investigation was taking place, buses were re-directed to Soccer Nova Scotia where staff members met them upon arrival to supervise.

Halifax Regional Police  completed a thorough investigation and the administration completed a threat risk assessment. It was determined that the concerns were unsubstantiated. Buses returned to the school, classes resumed and the school got back to learning. We will had police presence at the school throughout the day.

We know that receiving this message can be concerning, but please be assured that these matters are always taken seriously. If you feel your child may need support at the school following today’s incident, please don’t hesitate to reach out to their guidance counsellor or vice-principal.

Thank you for your support and understanding.
