Update from Halifax West High School - Lockdown today

Hello,

This afternoon Halifax Regional Police alerted the school that they had received information about a potential threat to student safety at Halifax West High School. Immediately upon receiving this information from Halifax Regional Police we initiated our Lockdown procedures.  Students and staff were safely in Lockdown while the Police arrived at the school to investigate the reported threat.  School staff and Police collaborated to take the necessary steps to ensure that students were safe while the investigation was underway.  Once Police and school staff felt assured that there was no risk to student or staff safety classes were dismissed shortly after 3:00.  We will continue to work with Halifax Regional Police as they follow up with the investigation.

Halifax Regional Police commented on how well our students and staff followed the expectations for a Lockdown. We want to extend our thanks to Halifax Regional Police for their response and support in a difficult and uncertain situation.

If you feel that your child may need support at the school following today’s incident, please reach out to us to their guidance counsellor or vice-principal.
